【English Translation】 407 The Long Life Prayer for Kunchen Jigme Wangpo 47-6-48 The Long Life Prayer for Kunchen Jigme Wangpo The Long Life Prayer for Kunchen Jigme Wangpo. In his fifty-sixth year, the Water Sheep year, he fell ill, and both the Labrang and the monastery performed many long life prayers. When Rabjampa Ngawang Dorje requested a long life prayer to be recited, he said to recite the 'Bhödracarya Pranidhana' (Zangchö Thön). When asked to recite another ritual, he said it was not necessary. After that, Rabjampa said, 'If you do that, it won't work. Others will say that your throne was not completed in the end. And if you abandon these monks who depend on you, what's the point?' He said, 'Then recite 'White Umbrella' (Dükar) and 'Tara' (Drölma), and the 'Heart Sutra' (Shernying), whichever can be accomplished.' Although these rituals were performed, his illness did not improve. The monastery sent Depa Lhünbum Rabjampa Lobsang Döndrup to see His Holiness Gongsa Rinpoche to request a long life stay. He granted: 'Holding the three vows of the degenerate age, Enjoying the perfection of both self and others, Omniscient Jamyang Zhepa, May you remain steadfast forever for the benefit of sentient beings!'
